History
Joondalup is Perth’s second CBD and is located between Western Australia’s spectacular coastline and the picturesque Yellagonga Regional Park. Residents in Joondalup, Connolly, Edgewater, Ocean Reef, Heathridge, Iluka and Currambine (south of Moore Drive) are a part of the Joondalup electorate.

The original inhabitants of this area are the Whadjuk Nyoongar. The Oor-dal-kalla people were the family group of Yellagonga, a prominent Aboriginal elder highly regarded in Nyoongar culture. Prior to European settlement Lake Joondalup provided a rich supply of food as well as inspiration for Noongar spiritual and ritual beliefs and practices. Joondalup is a very spiritual place due to its connection with the dreamtime.

In the dreamtime a spirit woman travelled through this region. When she stepped into the swamp, she left her footprint which is now the lake. She also left some strands of her hair. It’s why our home is called Joondalup (place of the long white hair.) Legend has it that on a full moon she comes out of the lake and appears to be standing on the water.

The Joondalup area is on the cutting edge of innovation and in shaping the industries of the future. The area is an ideal location to raise a family and embrace the opportunities of a well-connected coastal community
