Premier Mark McGowan joins Member for Joondalup, Emily Hamilton MLA in thanking frontline health workers at Joondalup Health Campus McGowan Labor Government is committed to delivering on commitment to upgrade and expand Joondalup Health Campus
Premier for Western Australia, Mark McGowan joined Emily Hamilton MLA, Member for Joondalup in thanking our frontline health workers at Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) for their important role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following a statement Ms Hamilton made in Parliament recently, the visit was a way in which the Premier and local Members Emily Hamilton and Mark Folkard MLA, Member for Burns Beach could convey their appreciation for the important work being undertaken to ensure our community were supported and safe during COVID-19.
In addition, the visit has prompted local MP Emily Hamilton to reiterate her and the McGowan Governments commitment to upgrading and expanding the JHC.
Works are progressing on the upgrade and expansion of the JHC that will see a significant investment of $256.7million by the McGowan Government.
Ms Hamilton was pleased to see the opening of the $7.1million Mental Health Observation Area (MHOA) in February 2018 that provided additional 10-bed mental health unit alongside the JHC Emergency Department.
May 2019 saw the opening of a 12-bed $5million stroke unit that Ms Hamilton had campaigned strongly for, which means that locals can receive support, close to home, when they need it, if they were experience a stroke.
Another major commitment by the McGowan Government was the upgrade and expansion of the JHC. Works were tracking to commence mid-2020, beginning with the construction of a staff carpark, but in March 2020, Ramsay Health Care (RHC) in consultation with the Department of Health, confirmed the intent to defer the planned works to allow staff at JHC respond to the COVID-19 emergency.
RHC conducted an Expression of Interest for builders which closed at the end of February. There were a total of 13 responses received which resulted in the shortlisting of four builders; Multiplex, Lendlease, Georgiou and Built to proceed to the Early Contractor lnvolvement (ECl) tender stage.
Whilst Covid-19 has delayed the works, the expansion is continuing and Ms Hamilton welcomes the significant investment that will be well received to boost quality healthcare close to home for residents in Joondalup and the northern corridor.
Comments attributed to Emily Hamilton:
The McGowan Government has allocated $256.7 million towards the Joondalup Health Campus redevelopment which is a significant investment in key health infrastructure in the northern corridor.
It was fantastic to join Premier McGowan to thank staff for their hard work during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Whilst there have been some delays to the redevelopment of the hospital due to COVID-19, Im pleased that things are back on track and soon we will have a fantastic facility for the Joondalup community.
