Youth with disability may ‘Jet through Life’

• Youth Disability Advocacy Network Inc. (YDAN) secures $20,000 grant in latest round of the McGowan Government’s Targeted Participation Program (TPP) funding
• The program aims to involve people who are underrepresented in sport and recreation
More people are set to enjoy the health benefits that come from participating in sport and recreation through the latest round of McGowan Government funding, aimed at encouraging people to be physically active and more involved in their communities.
The grant will fund the ‘Jet through Life’ project—an exciting community partnership between Youth Disability Advocacy Network Inc. (YDAN) and Edith Cowan University Jets Amateur Sports Club Inc. (ECU Jets). The project targets youth with disability, promoting healthy lifestyles and engagement in sport and active recreation.
‘Jet through Life’ will be delivered through 10 workshops in Wanneroo, Stirling, Swan, and Belmont. It is expected each workshop will have 20 to 30 participants, aged 12- to 18-years-of-age.
Seventeen projects around WA will receive $235,500 under the Targeted Participation Program which aims to engage people from various backgrounds who are statistically less likely to participate in sport and recreation activities.
The TPP is a joint initiative between the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Healthway.
The TPP’s objective is to involve people from groups such as the Aboriginal community, girls aged 12 to 17, people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) backgrounds, people with disability, seniors aged over 60 and at-risk youths.
