Parliamentary apprentice wanted

13th February 2019

• Applications for YMCA Youth Parliament are open until Sunday 10 March
• Local Member for Joondalup Emily Hamilton MLA encourages local young people to apply

Ms Hamilton isn’t planning on handing over the reins any time soon, but is encouraging local young people to apply to represent the Joondalup electorate at YMCA Youth Parliament.

The program teaches Western Australians between the ages of 15 and 25 about the political process while making their voices heard about the issues important to them.

Participants learn about writing legislation and speeches and will present their bills while role-playing in Parliament House during a week-long camp.

Ms Hamilton is looking forward to meeting Joondalup’s representative so they can discuss what changes young people want to see in our local community.

Applications are open until Sunday 10 March 2019.

Comments attributed to Emily Hamilton:

“I would love to see a young person from our community represent the electorate of Joondalup in the Chamber.

“Like all Parliaments, diversity is strength, so if you are a young person with a keen interest in the political system, I urge you to apply and gain an even greater understanding about politics as a way to make change.
