  • $20,000 to upgrade IT capabilities to better support veterans and their families
  • $20,000 for a courtesy car to provide transport for veterans in need

A re-elected McGowan Government will contribute $40,000 to fund IT upgrades and purchase a new courtesy car at the RSLWA’s Veterans Support Centre Joondalup.

The Veterans Support Centre Joondalup provides advocacy and welfare services for returned service people and their families, offering an important local hub where veterans can access counselling, financial support and other assistance.

A $20,000 commitment for IT upgrades will assist the centre to better respond to the nearly 400 calls it receives each month from veterans and their families seeking assistance.

The funding will help support the centre’s vital 24/7 mobile phone support service – which provides ex-service people in need with a one-on-one support service, whenever it’s required.

An additional $20,000 funding towards a new courtesy car will ensure there is a local transport option for veterans who are unable to access this kind of support through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Comments attributed to Member for Joondalup Emily Hamilton MLA:

“The Joondalup Veterans Support Centre’s volunteers do remarkable work to assist veterans from across the northern suburbs.

“This additional resourcing will make it that much easier for the centre’s staff to continue to provide important support, delivering strong advocacy for those in the community who need it most.”

Comments attributed to Member for Burns Beach Mark Folkard MLA:

“The Joondalup Veterans Support Centre provides incredibly important resources for our community, helping veterans with any challenges they face after their service careers have ended.

“We know ex-service people are more likely to suffer depression, PTSD and other mental health conditions, so it is vital we have a well-resourced support centre in the local area ready to help when people need it.

“This additional funding will give the centre the resources it needs to continue its excellent work and make sure our veterans have the support they need.”

Comments attributed to Veterans Support Centre Joondalup coordinator Ken Bevan:

“These extra resources will go a long way towards improving the lives of veterans and their families who reach out to us for assistance.

“The new equipment will allow us to run workshops for veterans and their families, and help us continue to provide support for the 400-plus enquiries we receive each month.”
