Emily Hamilton to host Biggest Morning Tea

Emily Hamilton, Member for Joondalup, will host a Cancer Council WA Biggest Morning Tea for the sixth consecutive year, to raise funds for vital cancer research, support services, prevention programs, and advocacy.

Local residents and members of community and sporting groups are all invited to attend the morning tea. And those who are unable to attend, but that would like to support, are invited to donate online.

The Biggest Morning Tea event will be held at the Joondalup Sports Club, which is home to a number of local sporting codes including netball, rugby union, hockey, athletics, and a triathlon and multisports club. The support of our local sporting clubs in fostering healthy communities is so important for people of all ages.

Funds raised will go towards practical and financial support for West Australians affected by this disease, as well as cancer education, research, and prevention.

Member for North Metropolitan Region, Hon. Ayor Makur Chuot MLC is supporting Ms Hamilton’s event.

Simon Millman MLA, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health; Mental Health, will be a guest speaker alongside Kristina Coomber from the Cancer Council WA. Ms Coomber is a Cancer Support Services Manager with the Cancer Council WA.

This year marks 30 years of the Biggest Morning Tea. Since 1993, the Cancer Council’s generous network of supporters across Australia has raised more than $200 million by hosting morning teas across our community, including locally in Joondalup.

Comments attributed to Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton:

“We all know someone who has been affected by cancer and this morning tea is one way we can do our bit to raise funds for Cancer Council WA.”

“I’d like to express my gratitude for the important work of the Cancer Council WA since 1958 supporting our WA community. In that time the chance of surviving a cancer diagnosis has improved from 30% to over 60%, and up to 90% for the most common types of cancer. This is a result of the research and advocacy funded through donations to the Cancer Council WA, including the Biggest Morning Tea.”
